Shi Young Choi
Violist
Shi Young Choi is a Korean violist based in Los Angeles, known for her powerful yet controlled presence on stage. Her career is built on a deep foundation in the classical repertoire, spanning solo performances, orchestral leadership, and collaborative chamber music.
As a founding member of the Arancia Ensemble, she performs with her sisters, bringing a unique depth to the stage that comes from a lifetime of shared music. The ensemble’s international recognition includes the Grand Prize at the Manhattan International Music Competition and a performance at Carnegie Hall. Alongside her performance career, Shi Young is a dedicated mentor, guiding students toward their own professional paths in music.
Profile
She distinguished musical education includes training at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied under Jeffrey Irvine and Lynne Ramsey, the Assistant Principal Violist of the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra. While at the Institute, she also received intensive chamber music coaching from the Cavani Quartet and participated in the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
Her professional orchestral career is marked by leadership and extensive experience. She previously held the position of Principal Violist of the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra and served as a Section Violist with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. Her extensive orchestral experience and focus on chamber music are essential to the balanced and rich sound of Three Strings.
